Musicians

Professional musicians practice and perform with the same intensity as professional athletes.  At March2Wellness, we understand the strain and stress the Musician's body undergoes, and the care required to heal it and prevent future injury.   Due to the overuse of specific muscle groups, musicians are especially prone to developing tendonitis and highly irritable spots in muscles called Trigger Points.  These trigger points can be "active," causing pain even when at rest.  By combining Trigger Point Therapy with massage and energywork, clients often restore their range of motion and find pain relief after just one visit.   Specific stretches and self-care techniques are provided for all clients, helping them to remain in peak performance condition.

What can musicians do to prevent injury in the first place?

First of all, don't believe for a minute that you have to play through the pain.  The pain signal is there to tell you that something is wrong!  Take a little break for every 30 minutes that you are playing.  Stretch. Be aware of your ergonomics.  If you sit to play, does your chair fit you properly? Are your arms contorted in order to be able to play properly?  Is your guitar strap putting pressure on your neck and shoulder?  Admitting you're having physical discomfort doesn't make you any less of a musician - it means you're a smart musician with years of playing ahead of you!
